Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride is an effective treatment that helps fights tooth decay. It is a mineral available in tap water and in almost all foods. It works in two ways:

Topical Fluoride
It strengthens the structural composition of the teeth. This enables the teeth to be more resistant to tooth decay. It's found in toothpaste, mouth rinses and gels. For children, it is recommended to have a professional fluoride application twice a year, and this can be in the form of fluoride trays or varnish.
Systemic Fluoride
Strengthen erupted and developing teeth, its main source being tap water. It is important to know how much fluoride is in your tap water as too much causes fluorosis (white spots on your teeth) and too little leads to tooth decay.
Sometimes the fluoride in your food and water is not enough leaving you susceptible to tooth decay. This is due to a possible combination of bad oral hygiene habits, high sugar diets, medications that cause dry mouth, and genetic to name a few. in these cases, your dental specialist may recommend a professional fluoride treatment.
Always remember that fluoride treatment isn't the only solution to tooth decay. You must brush twice daily, limit your sugar intake, eat a balanced diet, and visit your family dental hygienist.
