Justus Wong

Justus is a veteran trial lawyer that has been serving the Simcoe Community for over 20 years. Justus was Admitted to the Law Society of Upper Canada in 1993, and has tried more than 20 cases to jury verdict.

He has also settled hundreds of cases and recovered millions of dollars for accident victims all over Ontario. He is a specialist in the area of personal injury, particularly serious catastrophic brain and spinal cord injuries. Because of his experience Justus is often consulted by other lawyers on trial technique, trial strategy and proper trial preparation. Justus also litigates insurance issues, disability claims, employment law issues, and estate litigation. He enjoys several sports, including hockey, kickboxing and ultimate frisbee, and is a member of the Board of the Hamilton Ultimate Club. Matt has also done pro bono legal work for SOCKS, a local non-profit organization that supports orphans in Kenya.


Herman M. Weisberg

Herman graduated with distinction from the University of Regina with a Bachelor of Business Administration (corporate finance) and from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Laws, both in 1980.

He was admitted to the British Columbia Bar in 1981, and joined Alliston, Byrd and Wong in 2002. He became a partner of Alliston, Byrd and Wong not long thereafter and has been the managing partner since 1987. During his practice, Herman has developed extensive experience and expertise in the areas of real estate development, resort development and finance. He acts primarily for lending institutions, commercial and residential developers. He also has expertise in the areas of restructuring, foreclosure and realization law. Herman has participated as an instructor and guest lecturer for both the Canadian Bar Association and the Continuing Legal Education program.


Elizabeth J. Alliston

Elizabeth attended the University of Waterloo as an undergraduate student in the Honours Planning Co-op program, earning a Bachelor of Environmental Studies with a specialization in Land Development Planning. Prior to pursuing legal studies, she practiced as a planner at Meridian Planning Consultants Inc. (now MHBC).

Elizabeth received her Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of New Brunswick, and was the recipient of the John Teed Prize in Community Planning. Elizabeth’s familiarity with the land development process and municipal environment enables her to provide timely and practical advice to both municipal and private sector clients on the full range of issues that may arise throughout the approvals process. Elizabeth has appeared before all levels of court in Ontario, including the Court of Appeal for Ontario. She appears regularly before the Ontario Municipal Board, and holds a Certificate in Provincial Offences Court Practice from Osgoode Hall. Elizabeth is a member of the Ontario Bar Association – Municipal Section Executive, the University of Waterloo Planning Alumni of Toronto Committee, and the Simcoe County Law Association, and was called to the Bar in Ontario in 2012.


Robert P. Byrd

Robert graduated from Simon Fraser University with a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Criminology and minoring in Psychology. As part of his undergraduate degree, Robert completed part of his studies at Meiji Gakuin University in Japan before continuing his education at the University of Alberta, where he obtained a Bachelor of Laws Degree.

Before joining Alliston Byrd & Wong LLP in 2007, Robert had gained experience in a broad range of legal areas, including real estate, corporate / commercial, financing, wills and estates, family, intellectual property, civil litigation, criminal, and ICBC defence. Since Robert has joined Alliston Byrd & Wong LLP, he now specializes in real estate development and acquisitions, general business law, commercial and residential conveyancing, and wills and estates.


Sille S. Mathiasen

Sille attended the University of Western Ontario in London focusing on business and economics, and using that as a basis she decided to pursue a career in law. She graduated with a Juris Doctor from Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto, and was called to the Bar in both Ontario and British Columbia (moving from Ontario to B.C. in '95).

Prior to joining Alliston Byrd & Wong LLP, Sille practiced corporate commercial law with a boutique Vancouver firm, working with both domestic and international clients on multi-jurisdictional secured finance and business merger transactions and complex corporate reorganizations involving entities including limited partnerships, unlimited liability companies and trusts. She has worked with numerous not-for-profit organizations from the organizational stage and beyond, helping to structure unique project specific arrangements. Her background includes working with a large international law firm where she first cultivated her interest in multi-jurisdictional transaction work. She regularly advises Canadian and foreign-based companies on their Canadian business operations and governance issues.
